On 28 Feb 1699 Willem Adriaan van der Stel signed the deed to grant Jean le Roux land to farm on in the Paarl area. Naming the farm Groot Parys; after his beloved country of birth, this was the start of a life-long legacy and a love affair with wines that today still strongly exists in the hand of the present owner.
