Each guest unit is individually decorated and has its own private barbeque courtyard, en-suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchenette, hairdryer, iron, telephone, TV (DSTV) and private entrance.

Our entertainment area offers a swimming pool and cozy pub. We offer safe off-street, lock-up parking. Margate Place is a non-smoking establishment, although smoking is permitted in the pub as well as in the private courtyard area of each unit.

Attractions

Port Elizabeth isn’t as renowned for its surf spots as its Eastern Cape neighbour Jeffrey’s Bay. And that’s just the way the locals like it.

But if you know where and when to look you’ll find some of the best longboarding waves in the country. The trick is timing PE’s infamous wind, which, when ruling out the surf, churns up stellar kiteboarding conditions.

Fear not about navigating the seas alone, because Margate Place offers guided tours of the friendly city’s longboard surfing and kiteboarding spots. And since we treat our guests like family, we have no problem sharing our local knowledge about the ins-and-outs of our gorgeous bay’s surf scene.

Our favoured longboarding wave, Cobbles, is tucked away in the Cape Recife Nature Reserve on the outskirts of town. Just a few minutes away, this spot provides the perfect escape from city life and is suitable for any experience level. Across the road from us is Millers, a slightly faster wave enjoyed on boards of all sizes. And up the beach good old Pipe consistently delivers fun shortboard rides.

Kiteboarders have just as much to choose from. Kings Beach has an abundance of space, which is great for learning. And both Millers and Cape Recife work for this adrenaline spiking sport when conditions are right. Further around the corner from the reserve is Sardinia Bay, as well as Danger Bay, which as the name suggests is reserved for more experienced athletes.

But know-how about either sport is not a requirement for getting involved. We’ll coach you through the basics and even provide gear on site for rental, including longboards, stand-up-paddles and all kiteboarding gear.

We are the only guest house in the area to provide this holistic service. And we do so purely out of our love for the water. So whether you’re an accomplished pro or absolute beginner, we’d love you to join us for a seaside adventure.
